SAINT GIL, THE PATRON SAINT OF ORTILLA

LEGEND ABOUT WHY SAINT GIL IS THE PATRON SAINT OF ORTILLA

They greater of our town count that all their life they have heard the following history.

Saint Ginés, Saint Gil and Saint Michael are the patron saints of Lupiñén, Ortilla and Montmesa, respectively. But somebody knows why?

According to our greater ones count , the three saints came together from Huesca. When they arrived at Lupiñén and more concretely to height of Riel river (river that happens between Lupiñén and Ortilla), they found that a great flood that prevented them to follow with its way. A great storm had fallen that day. There, the saints asked themselves "Who cross a river now?". Saint Gil said, " I am going to cross it ". Saint Michael answered then " if you cross it, I am going to cross it too". But Saint Ginés said, " I am not going to cross the river". Therefore, Saint Gil and Saint Michael crossed the river and remained in Ortilla and Montmesa, respectively whereas Saint Ginés remained in Lupiñén and it is for that reason he is the patron saint of Lupiñén.
