Description:

  • long, slim body

  • pelage brown

  • tail not black-tipped

  • molts white in winter like other weasels

  • total length: 166-216 mm (smallest weasel in WY)

Similar Species: its small size and lack of a black tip on the tail distinguishes nivalis from other Wyoming weasels

Habitat: relatively high elevation; rolling sagebrush and grasslands which include riparian areas
