Scientific name: Lymnocryptes minimus

Status: Widespread winter visitor, generally scarce but easily overlooked.

Habitat: Wet areas - damp fields, watercress beds, marshes etc..

Description: Smaller than Snipe with shorter legs and bill. Two pairs of buff stripes on mantle. Reluctant to take flight, which id low and lacks Snipe's zig-zag action

Size: 19 cm (7½")
